L’Editorial: Ahn Hyo Seop’s Actions

LH: You built up your filmography pretty quickly after your debut. Now that you’ve been running endlessly, what was your most memorable moment?

Ahn Hyo Seop: It would be when I got cast for my debut work Splash, Splash Love. The word “first” always feels new and exciting. I was amazed and grateful to be able to experience and learn about the filming site in person and be able to act in front of the camera.

LH: What works or roles do you usually admire?

Ahn Hyo Seop: I like Director Christopher Nolan’s movie Moment. It was a really interesting movie with its fresh plot development and the actor’s detailed acting. And of course, the most memorable role would be Joker from Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight. I felt how it was for an actor to be one with his character.

LH: Other than being an actor, you’re handsome and tall. Does being good-looking and tall have an effect on your life?

Ahn Hyo Seop: Actually, I didn’t know I was tall when I was living in Canada. While I was preparing to be an actor here in Korea, I learned for the first time that being tall was an advantage. In a way, I feel lucky to have an advantage. But I still don’t know how good looks affect my life.

LH: What kind of balance should the outer appearance and the inner side have?

Ahn Hyo Seop: I think the outer and inner should match. They’re both connected. In other words, (someone)’s inner thoughts and feelings are shown through their outer appearance. Perhaps, this is why physiognomy exists.

LH: What do you think are the qualities that define a handsome man?

Ahn Hyo Seop: Someone who has his own standards and philosophy, and who can confidently express them. Of course, each person has different standards because they grew up in different environments, and had different influences. However, I think it’s attractive when a person has a clear vision.

LH: You’re at an age where you want to have fun. What would you do if you were given a week off?

Ahn Hyo Seop: I want to travel. In life, I think it’s important to experience the culture and way of living of people in other countries. Maybe that’s why I prefer empathizing with their lives like a local as much as possible, rather than going sightseeing.

LH: We can’t discuss the standard for popularity, but no matter what, the Ahn Hyo Seop of today is a rising sun. Do you have any thoughts or worries about being a rising star?

Ahn Hyo Seop: I think the expression “rising sun” is a really cool one. Actually, I don’t exactly know where I am right now, or where I’m heading. I just want to do my best at every moment, and do everything I’m obligated to do. I think this is what responsibility means.

LH: What do you think is the most important quality to have as an actor?

Ahn Hyo Seop: Wouldn’t it be the honesty towards acting? I’m still at the learning stage, but the moment I act, I think it’s important to express honest emotions. I think the people watching can easily recognize it.

LH: Three things that make you happy.

Ahn Hyo Seop: Family (including Baul), a future where I can challenge myself, my positive influence.

LH: Three most important things in your life.

Ahn Hyo Seop: Family (including Baul), my own philosophy, time

LH: This is the last question. Define ‘Actor Ahn Hyo Seop’ in one word.

Ahn Hyo Seop: A person who wants to be a forest rather than a tree.
